Forgive

I was praying with a friend a couple days ago and trying to think of anyone perhaps I had a hard time forgiving, but I couldn't think of anyone in particular. Then this morning I came across this poem I wrote a few years ago during a time I really was learning about the miracle of forgiveness. So, I thought I'd post it.

If I could know all that was in your heart
and all you've ever been through
I could love you more
and forgive you further still
Yet God asks me to do the unthinkable
to have enough faith in Him
to receive enough grace for you
and to accept grace myself

When you hurt me, oh yes it hurts me
Even through the times you seem to despise and curse me
the feeling is the worst but in Christ, God assures my ability
and capacity to forgive
I learned I cannot change you, only me
And maybe a miracle will bring us into a cycle
of just plain love
